Mariana de Oliveira Estevo

Graduated in Social Sciences at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and master’s student in the Biological Diversity and Conservation in the Tropics Program of the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) in Brazil. My topics of interest are traditional communities, conservation of socio-biodiversity, populations in protected areas, participatory management in protected areas, local ecological knowledge and socio-ecological systems. Currently, I am investigating with the help of my advisors how climate change is impacting the daily life of riverside communities in the Amazon and what are the adaptations that these communities are already adopting in order to minimize these impacts. In this way, we are collecting data based on local, pertinent perception, about changes in climate, fauna, flora and food production and how these changes affect social dynamics of these socio-ecological systems.
